Das deutsche Forschungsschiff Polarstern, das vom Alfred-Wegener-Institut für Polar- und Meeresforschung in der Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft betrieben wird, befährt erstmals die Nordwestpassage.
Polarstern hat am 12. August den Hafen von Reykjavik verlassen, Grönland südlich umschifft und befindet sich derzeit am Beginn der Nordwestpassage.
