October was once again marked by the continuing dollar weakness and rising oil prices, with a simultaneous rally in the share and bond markets.
In the expectation of further interest-rate cuts in the USA ( the Fed reduced the Fed Funds and bank rates by 25 bps each on 31 October ), investors steered clear of the US dollar, which led to an all-time low rate for the greenback.
Led by the Asiatic stock markets, the MSCI World Index (USD) rose by 3 % in October, while the S & P 500, with a plus of 1.5 %, improved by only half as much.
