Vorangegangene Grundlagenprojekte mit EMBAER haben gezeigt, dass es prinzipiell möglich ist, Flugzeugrumpfstrukturen mit Friction Stir Welding (FSW) anstelle von herkömmlichen Nietverbindungen zu realisieren.
Sowohl Verbindungen von Haut-Stringer als auch Haut-Haut im Stumpfstoß sind auf die gleiche Weise möglich, was zu einer erheblichen Gewichtseinsparung führt.
