Insbesondere atmosphärische Phänomene und Wechselbeziehungen von Land und Atmosphäre werden im idealisierten Rahmen durch die Verwendung von „ large eddy “ Simulationen ( LES ) untersucht.
Das Institut hat eine außergewöhnliche Anzahl dieser Modelle, da drei von den fünf oder sechs weltweit führenden LES-Modellen von Institutsmitarbeitern entwickelt und / oder gepflegt wurden.
