Durch den hohen Druck des Blutes in der V. cava inferior gelangt mehr Blut der V. cava inferior über das Foramen ovale direkt in das linke Atrium.
Unterstürzt wird dies auch durch die anatomischen Gegebenheiten, nämlich dass das Foramen ovale gegen unten offen ist und dadurch den von unten kommende Blutstrom mit erhöhtem Druck direkt in das linke Atrium leiten kann.
