Er führt vom Grimsel Hospiz über die Staumauer, immer entlang dem See, über schmale, in den Fels gesprengte Pfade, durch geschützte Hochmoore und mit Arven durchsetzte Blumenmatten bis zur Verlandungszone am Fusse des Gletschers (Schwierigkeitsgrad T3).
Der zweite Streckenteil führt durch das interessante Urgebiet des Unteraargletschers – der Ursprung der Aare – und zuletzt hinauf auf den Felssporn zur Hütte im hochalpinen Gebiet (Schwierigkeitsgrad T4).

It begins at the Grimsel Hospiz and leads across the dam and along the lade on a small path cut out of the granitecliffs, through protected high alpine moors with wonderful flowers and Swiss pine trees and up to the accretion zone at the foot of the glacier (Level T3).
The second part of the hike leads up and over the glacier - the origin of the Aare river - and up the rocky promontory on which the hut stands (Level T4).
