Halogenbrücken zweier Iod-Atome ( blau ) lockern die Bindung zwischen Chlor- ( grün ) und Kohlenstoffatom ( grau ).Das Chloratom kann so leichter gegen einen anderen Baustein ausgetauscht werden.

www.tum.dedie Positionen sowohl der lokalen Minima als auch der Übergangszustände und der Reaktionswege unterscheiden sich nur um einige Grad in den Torsionswinkeln T1 und T2. Weiters liegt die relative Energie einander entsprechender stationärer Punkte innerhalb von 1 kJ / mol, mit einer Ausnahme :
wenn die Position 5 durch ein Chloratom substituiert ist, dann liegt das zweitniedrigste Energieminimum mehr als 1,9 kJ/mol über dem globalen Minimum, während es in IAA, 6-Cl-IAA und 7-Cl-IAA unter 0,7 kJ/mol liegt.
Effektive Kernladungen wurden für das Fragment H-N-C-C-C-COOH in allen lokalen Minima mit Hilfe der CHELPG-Routine bestimmt.

Furthermore the relative energy of corresponding stationary points is within a range of 1 kJ/mol, except for the increased energy gap between the global minimum (which is displayed above) and the respective minimum of second lowest energy, if a chlorine atom is substituted in position 5.
In unsubstituted IAA, 6-Cl-IAA, and 7-Cl-IAA this energy gap is below 0.7 kJ/mol, whereas in 5-Cl-IAA and 5,6-Cl2-IAA it is more than 1.9 kJ/mol.
