Professor Fuhr is member of the Medical Faculty as well as co-opted in the Physics and Mechatronics Faculty, member of the Centre for Bioinformatics as well as co-opted member of the Biology Faculty of Humboldt University Berlin.
In 1981, he received his PhD in the area of photomorphogenesis of higher plants, 1985 he habilitated in biophysics.
In 1999, he founded a Centre of Biophysics and Bioinformatics at the Humboldt University Berlin, where he kept the position of the first Executive Director until his entry into the Fraunhofer Society.
