I.some [ingl. brit. sʌm, s(ə)m, ingl. am. səm] DETMTE. When some is used to mean an unspecified amount of something, it precedes either uncountable nouns or countable nouns in the plural: give me some milk and some chocolate biscuits = dammi del latte e dei biscotti al cioccolato. - Some is translated by del, della, dei or delle according to the gender and number of the noun that follows: I'd like some bread = vorrei del pane have some tea = prenda del tè we've bought some books = abbiamo comprato dei libri they've bought some peaches = hanno comprato delle pesche. - Some can also be rendered by qualche, alcuni or alcune, and un po'(di) qualche is invariable and it is always followed by the singular: he showed me some pictures = mi mostrò qualche fotografia alcuni and alcune are always used in the plural and agree in gender with the nouns they qualify: I bought some books/some pencils = ho comprato alcuni libri/alcune matite; give me some money! = dammi un po' di soldi! - Some is generally used in affirmative sentences when used in interrogative sentences, some implies an answer in the affirmative (typically, when you offer something to somebody) or a feeling of surprise: will you have some coffee? = vuole del caffè? but didn't I give you some money this morning? = ma non ti ho già dato dei soldi stamattina? - For particular usages see this entry.
